The bustling city of Auckland, New Zealand, has been recognised as a prime destination for remote working, according to the latest report from HR platform, Remote. The Best Destinations for Remote Work report for 2024 positions Auckland fourth globally, behind cities in Spain, Portugal and Canada.

The report by Remote evaluates 100 locations worldwide, factoring in attributes such as cost-of-living, quality of life, openness and connectivity to give digital nomads and other remote working professionals an informed choice when planning their working location. The analysis furthermore provides custom recommendations based on these factors to help individuals find their ideal remote work location.

Remote's report presents a detailed overview of how Auckland accomplished its high fourth place ranking. The city boasts an excellent quality of life index at 94%, while its level of openness scores an impressive 99%. Their internet index paints a similarly positive picture at 77%, with attractiveness reported at 83% and a safety index of 87%. The analysis does, however, suggest room for improvement for cost of living, incentives, and inflation indexes, scoring 47%, 60% and 74% respectively.

Auckland finds itself in esteemed company in the top ten destinations for remote working, sharing the limelight with major cities including Madrid, Madeira, Toronto, Tokyo, Paris, Portland (Maine), Taipei, Stockholm and Reykjavík. This status fulfils an evolving need for professionals seeking to balance life and work in inspiring, productive environments.

This report is a continuation from Remote’s first publication of the Best Destinations for Remote Work in 2021. Since then, the concept of remote work has transitioned from a global crisis necessity to an option of lifestyle choice. In reflection of this change, Remote has updated its evaluation factors to include elements such as inflation and the accessibility of a digital nomad visa which is now offered in over 50 countries.

Job van der Voort, co-founder and CEO of Remote, outlined the importance of selecting the right location for remote workers. He stated, "Remote work enables professionals to maintain careers wherever they feel most inspired, productive, and balanced. This year's list of the top global destinations for remote work reflects not just the best places to live and work remotely, but also the evolving landscape of what remote professionals need to thrive in a post-pandemic world.”

Van der Voort went on to describe how this dynamic approach to work could, "enable an exchange of cultures, ideas, and innovations and enrich communities.” He concluded expressively, “We're eager to witness the positive impact that global citizens will have on their chosen destinations."
