Eutelsat & Sat One partnership launches satellite services in Australasia
Fri, 29th Mar 2024

The Eutelsat Group has announced a partnership with satellite service company Sat One to leverage its OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation. This is the first time land-based services have been activated in Australia's remote northern and southern regions, maritime services in Australian waters, and commercial services in New Zealand.

Sat One and Eutelsat OneWeb are bound by a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement. This partnership facilitates Sat One's furnishing of high-speed, low-latency connectivity to its remote customers. With Eutelsat OneWeb's LEO now operational in Australia and New Zealand, Sat One has begun supplying services to enterprises, including mining sites, remote communities, and maritime customers.

Daniel Fairbairn, Chief Executive Officer of Sat One, welcomed the new partnership, stating, "Today heralds a new chapter for connectivity, tailored to Australasia's unique landscapes and seascapes. Our agreement with Eutelsat OneWeb enables us to lead the market in providing enterprise grade, resilient, high-speed, low-latency LEO services that stand up to the harsh outback, the wet tropics, and New Zealand's freezing conditions, as well as the demanding marine environments."

According to Fairbairn, enterprises can remain connected and competitive no matter how remote or challenging their operations are, thanks to their agreement with Eutelsat OneWeb.

Cyril Dujardin, Co-President of the Connectivity Business Unit at Eutelsat, also commented on the partnership: "We are delighted to announce the launch of our LEO services for customers in Australia and New Zealand. As a trusted connectivity provider, Sat One understands the complex needs of modern businesses and maritime operations. We are excited by the start of these services and looking forward to building on our partnership with Sat One."

The announcement comes a month after Telstra, the Australian telecom operator, launched Eutelsat OneWeb's LEO backhaul in Australia. The newly activated services aim to bridge the digital divide by bringing fast and reliable enterprise connectivity to even the most craggy seascapes and landscapes.

The partnership between Sat One and Eutelsat OneWeb marks a significant milestone in providing high-speed, low-latency connectivity to remote regions in Australia and New Zealand. With Eutelsat's LEO constellation now operational in these areas, enterprises, mining sites, remote communities, and maritime customers can benefit from reliable connectivity even in the most challenging environments. This collaboration underscores a commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering businesses with the tools they need to thrive in Australasia's unique landscapes and seascapes.

Sat One, established in 2021 and headquartered in Perth, is known for its enterprise connectivity solutions across Australia and New Zealand through leading Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) satellite technology. Conversely, Eutelsat Group is renowned worldwide for satellite communications, delivering broadcast services and connectivity.
